Reflection: Applying the Essential Question to the Political Cartoon
There is a constant shifting of power within the case of Man v. the Institution and the Institution v. Man, the media being the institution and the man representing a collective or a single person. The media tells a story that influences the man, the viewers or readers, to think a certain way. In the case of the bailout plan the man, the financially hurt, demand the government help us and the man, the tax payers, fear the cost of the plan. In the case of whom we, the voters, want at the head our country; we want someone who will be their own person. But when they “step out of line” of what we, the voters, feel is appropriate, we name them as a rebel. The balance of influence is always shifting from one side to the other; the people influencing society, society influencing the people.
